We Start Where We Are

When we learn to be of service to one another without imposing our ideas and advice, eventually the truth of our wholeness begins to reveal itself.

This is how it unfolds.  In the beginning, we encourage ourselves to believe in another person's inner strength and offer our deepest presence, even if it is difficult.  Over time we see their inner strength come to the surface and they heal.  Suddenly, it dawns on us that what is true for the person we are caring for may well be true for us.  If they have within them everything they need to heal, then perhaps so do we.  At once, the roles of giver and receiver disappear.  Both are student and teacher, healer and healed.  When the day comes thatwe find ourselves immersed in sorrow, for one reason or another, we will know we have within us all that we need to heal.

Some people have the reverse experience: They begin by learning to care for themselves and something shifts inside.  Self love inspires love for others.  Compassion is unleashed from within.  From this inspired place, they begin to care for others in an intentional way.

I've seen it work both ways, and in the end it doesn't matter where we start.  It's that we start.  We start where we are.

Surfing online, I've come to visit the ijourney.org, I know it's no accident, I know everything happens for a reason. As I'm looking for something to read, this reading had caught my eye 'We start where we are". Long before, I'm not happy for who I am, i don't have everything in life a girl could asked for, in other words, I'm not contented with my life, I always focused myself on things that I don't have, thinking that if I could have all that i want, I will be happy. But as the time passed by, i've met people who have opened my mind and my heart , HAPPINESS starts from within, if you feel good about yourself, you feel happy that you're still alive, you have those things while others have nothing- you're grateful for everything, Happiness will surely find you and stays with you forever. And if you feel happy and blessed inside, it shows and reflects outsideof you towards the people around you, you won't noticed that you're sharing yourself, your happiness with the people around y... My family calls me Pancho and I'd like you to know that I love you all. As I have said before, all Wednesdays are special. This time hermano Somik's parents were around, and hermana Pavi and hermano Viral (who didn't show up physically at the circle but whose presence we sensed given his strong love field ;-)) were back from India. Last year close to New Year's eve, I remember how Rev. Heng Sure stressed to point to discover our true nature by been exposed to filiality. Somehow this Wednesday I felt it was about kinship and filiality. It was my last Wednesday for many weeks to come and it had a nostalgic touch. People didn't notice, but I had a little sadness in my heart because the Mehta family and the Charity Focus family are that for me, (my) families. I don't know what the Universal Love has prepared for me but I was (and I am!) astronomically grateful to have shared that incredible space/time with you all. As an "undocumented" human being in this part... View full comment

This Wednesday was absolutely magical. I was so happy I could not stop smiling. Even as I was trying to fall asleep, I had to try to signal my cheeks to relax, but they wouldn't! The atmosphere of the Mehta (metta) family room was truly emanating with tremendous joy, vitality and love. Everyone could feel and connect with it. Quite a few people even commented on it. Somikbhai set the tone of the evening beautifully by remembering a research advisor of his who had said he needed to do his 'angel duty' of the day. The idea of 'angel duty' or service rendered at just the right time, in just the right way, really resonated throughout the circle of sharing. Angel duty, as its definition naturally infers, is different for each person. For Somikbhai, his professor did angel duty for him by telling someone else that consulting was not in alignment with Somikbhai's deepest values (even though Somikbhai had actually been looking for post-doctorate consulting opportunities).  It was a real...
