THE RIVER
[inspired by Shunryu Suzuki: Zen Mind, Beginner's Mind]
The river, not well named as we know there is no "river".... it is a manifestation of energy completely devoid of static formation.... and so the river is a vast oneness of energy. And there at the top of a mountain edge it falls a great vertical height to the valley floor below... and suddenly it is no longer a single mass of energy but a myriad of individual droplets... falling too without fixed form, yet apart from the previous mass of oneness ...... For a moment it is easy to imagine these seemingly singular manifestations... and yet.. and then... once at the base of that fall, a huge united mass of energy (that we call the river) again is formed .... How analogous to our brief illusion of ourself, that 'moment' in time we call our life... when we are individuated and feel apart from the oneness that is the river, our home. The mass of energy (that we call the river) has no reference to what was seemingly the individuated parts of the waterfall... and so be it.
Gone gone beyond, completely exposed... awake, so be it.
