In the summer of 2019, just after having attended a course on learning to create and walk labyrinths, I made a 14 hour train journey to visit a friend in the far north of Scotland. It was indeed a sacred journey, a pilgrimage, to see her.
A long train journey is so good for inner silence, with the steady thrum of the train on the tracks, the gentle swaying and the scenery glimpsed as it passes somehow creating a container to hold the silence.
I had taken with me the sketchbook I'd begun to fill on the course and, as the journey proceeded, I drew a labyrinth with sketches of notable scenery, both outer and inner, that I encountered on the way.
