As a human being Jesus practiced meditation for the primary purpose of hearing the Voice of Spirit of God within Him and learning from Spirit of God within Him in order to gain the knowledge, understanding and wisdom as to how to carry out His daily God-ordained purpose. Unbeknownst to many people, the teaching and practice of meditation used to be a major part of the ancient Jewish and Rabbinical education.Today I personally practice meditation primarily for this same reason. It has been the most liberating experience of my life! Most Christians are taught (if meditation is taught in their Churches) that you meditate on the Written Word of God (the Bible). Jesus was taught to meditate in order to get Spoken Word (Truth) from the Spirit of God for your life. Jesus called this inner hearing and learning environment "the Kingdom of God" (Luke 17:20-21). From the ancient Hebraic perspective "the Kingdom of God" that Jesus was referring to was known as the "Bet Hammelkh" which means "the House of Counsel." The Bible states that God is love according to 1 John 4: 7-8. So "meditate like Christ" is to meditate in the environment and presence of the very essence of what true pure love is which is the nature of God.
