When you are in a very difficult situation where resentment and bitterness have the tendency to overwhlm you. You are a prisoner. The person you resent or being bitter torwards is not the victim anymore, You are self-inflicting emotional wounds and adding more salt to your own pains by lamenting continually so as to sustain your hate towards the other person.
Resentment and Bitterness can take the form of self-pitty that makes you do not want to talk to the person you resent. Or it can take the form of direct designs of schemes to take your purpported oppressor down. When you are in this state, all emotional rationale evaporates and you see all situations and circumstances through a very narrow perspective. The danger is your social life and all other aspect of your humanity in whole will crumble and collapse systematically.
Hence compassionate is not about defeat, nor setting the purpported oppressor free, though maybe percieved as yes, but the greates benefit is for you and you yourself. It arrests your downward spiral fueled and sustained by unhealthy emtional packets of fuel. Compassion sets you free as it extingusihes the destructive fire of pain in you and rehabilitate the garden of roses in you. It tends to gradually and progressively brings the good in you out. You have to work on it and it is a worthy effort.
Bliblically speaking, God created us in his own image. In principle it means we are perfect as of creation, But sin which is the desire of the flesh erodes that perfection and that hurts the Creator very much. And it is the device of Satan, but how did God responded to this:- He responded with COMPASSION. Jesus our Lord and Saviour is the gereatest testimony of the our Creator's COMPASSIONATE RESPONSE to his creations perils invoked by sin
It is the greatest lesson for mankind, TO BE COMPASSIONATE, but yet maybe so obscured by the temporary luxuries of Human Pride and Ego that is motivated by revenge and other anti-social designs.
