Awakin Calls is a weekly interview series (a webinar and podcast) that highlights the outer work and inner journeys of individuals who are transforming our world in large and small ways. Awakin Calls are an all-volunteer offering of ServiceSpace, a global platform founded on the principle of "Change Yourself. Change the World." Co-created and offered by a distributed global team of volunteers (including possibly you!) in a spirit of service, gift and generosity, they are ad-free and available at no charge.
Every Saturday at 9AM Pacific time (California), and also occasionally at other times during the week, we hold a live global virtual event with an inspiring individual, with the simple hope of spreading positive ideas and connecting kindred spirits. We also host Awakin dialogues with multiple speakers in live webinar format. Our guests have ranged from global changemakers in the nonprofit, corporate, academic, medical, and arts worlds -- including Pulitzer Prize-winning writers, innovative philanthropists, transformational business leaders, Nobel prize recipients, and cultural change filmmakers and musicians -- to "ordinary" but remarkable individuals manifesting their journeys of inner transformation through deep work in their communities.
The Awakin context centers on values that trigger inner transformation, and so the conversation ends up being somewhat different from what is found in traditional settings that focus only on the individual's work in the world. The Awakin call evokes turning point stories and holds space for speakers to open their hearts a bit about the personal inner journey that accompanies the outer head-and-hands work.
What is the event format?
Every Saturday at 9AM Pacific Time, and occasionally during other times in the week, we hold a live global virtual event with an inspiring individual. We open with a moderated interview with the speaker, and then open it up for reflections, questions and sharing by all call participants.
Who is behind this?
Technically, we're a project of ServiceSpace -- ServiceSpace is an ecosystem of all volunteers, so we're also all volunteers who care to be the change and make this world a better place. Our volunteers are remarkable changemakers in their own right -- accomplished writers and artists and community service anchors, as well as leaders in business, academia, public policy, medicine and healing -- all seeking to serve their communities and world in small and large ways. Our team currently has dozens of members located in multiple continents.
How can I join as a guest?
To join an upcoming live event as a guest, simply find one that interests you and RSVP. You will be emailed details to connect, and voila. We think of all call participants -- both speakers and listeners -- as active co-creators in the dialogue process, so we look forward to your active participation. We aim to keep the conversation intimate and also encourage post-call interactions. Most of our calls have long .tails. -- in that once the recording of the event is posted on our website, they are accessed tens of thousands of times over time.
How can I nominate a speaker?
To nominate yourself or someone else as a formal guest, please fill in the nomination form and we'll keep you posted if/when there's a fit. A recent Awakin Calls guest wrote this: .when I was on the call, I felt an activated energy much in the way of connecting to the chi field when I practice with others. I.ve done countless podcasts. I.ve not experienced this before. It.s a phenomenal community you all have cultivated.energetically alive.. For more context, here's a summary of what one speaker shared after a call: What I Received
How long have you been doing this?
Our first call was in 2010, for a small internal group of volunteers, and then we opened it up and we have continued every Saturday since. It started almost by accident, but we're so happy it did. :) As of 2021, we completed more than 500 calls! We're delighted to make the entire repository available with audio recordings, transcripts and blogs.
Can I sign up to volunteer?
Yes, absolutely! Register with ServiceSpace, create a profile that will tell us a bit more about your background, and watch an online orientation (which will tell you a bit more about us), and then you should be able to sign-up for open volunteer positions.
I have more questions.
We'd love to hear from you! Drop us a note anytime.
