This is a clear example of metaphor is all about. Subliminally you can given explanatory messages with examples, as it is the river versus the ocean comparatively or applying to the way we see or feel on life.

This metaphor arose in front of my eyes when I was going through a crisis of fear, I didn't even know why I felt bad. After rereading it, I cried; Because I realized that it was pure fear of being alone after losing the friendship, that for some reason the others also left.
