In the early morning for we filled the water jugs from a hose outside the post office in the little hamlet of harmony, Pop.18. Everyone was still asleep.
Deputy sheriff ray Connelly stopped this AM "will you drop us a line when you get to the city of 10000 Buddhas and let us know everythings okay?" he asked. He answered a call on his radio and then said,
"I'm very humbled by that you are doing. It must take a lot of endurance and determination. I don't think I could ever do it.,"
Monk: "Sure you could. Anybody could."
Sheriff: "Gotta really get psyched up for it, huh?"
Monk: "Well, we think about doing it for all living beings. It's easy that way. That's how we get psyched-up! If you set your mind to it, you can do anything."
"The bodhisattva has this thought: I vow that these good roots will Be of benefit to all living beings And will purify them so that ultimately They will forever leave suffer- ing and affliction." -- Avatamsaka sutra "Ten transferences chapter"
Sheriff: "I'm a firm believer in that. Well needless to say you have my total support and a lot of other folks' too. They all want to know if everything's okay."
Monk: "Everything's okay."
Sheriff: "Well, I'll see you later and keep in touch."
