John blades, a tour-guide from the nearby Hearst San Simeon state historical monument, stopped early this AM on his motorcycle.
"I just wanted to find out what kind of people you are. What you're doing takes real character and patience, and I've found these are the best kind of people to be around." He said. John took off his motorcycle helmet and continued.
"My job is pretty good because the people I work with are open-minded, a bunch of crazies. We keep each other outgoing and active. I was pretty introverted when I got out of high school, but air force, college and a few other experiences changed that soon. I'm really interested in what you're doing. I haven't found my true groove yet."
"They perfect the bodhisattvas' path. They constantly extend their hands in preparation for vast giving. Their Steps are peaceful as they travel about- Heroic, courageous, without fear." -- Avatamsaka sutra "Ten transferences chapter"
The world is full of people like john whose hands are "constantly extended for vast giving "; people who want to do something worthwhile and of benefit to humankind. They want to expand the limits of theor own potential and give heroically to the cause of peace.
But there's so little available. John went into the air force, not because he wanted to be a soldier, but out of a desire to explore himself and the world. He wanted to reach out and travel. There's a bulging reservoir of courage and compassion in the young people of the world, and untapped natural resource waiting for t he right groove to come along.
Why not turn all the bombers, military cargo, jets and battleships into people ships that could fly medical-disaster relief corps of trained young people anywhere in the world for any emergency? Or create an Environmental corps who of trained to work in all aspects of clean air, water and food. There could be senior citizens brigade, specializing in facilitating natural ways to cope with problems of housing, health care, dying and loneliness. Or a children's corps that provided crisis intervention for families, well trained to deal with child abuse, delinquencies, learning disabilities, etc. the potential is endless.
